Our History
From humble beginnings to a thriving centre of healthcare excellence — discover the milestones that shaped Hephzibah Modern College into what it is today.
Born from a Vision to Heal a Nation
In 2013, our founder looked at the state of healthcare in Nigeria and saw two unmistakable truths: the country desperately needed more trained health workers, and the majority of Nigerians who wanted to serve in healthcare could not afford the prohibitive cost of training at existing institutions.
The answer was Hephzibah Modern College of Health Science and Technology — established at 9 Mustapha Close, Water View Estate, Ishasi-Akute, Ogun State, with a mandate to make world-class healthcare education affordable, accessible, and excellent. The name Hephzibah, meaning "my delight is in her," was chosen deliberately: every student who walks through our doors is our delight, our purpose, and our joy.
We opened with a small but passionate cohort of students, a handful of expert lecturers, and an unshakeable belief that affordable education and high standards are not mutually exclusive. Over a decade later, that belief has produced over 5,000 graduates now serving in hospitals, clinics, and communities across Nigeria.
Our Journey: 2013 — 2025
Twelve years of growth, achievement, and unwavering commitment to healthcare education in Nigeria.
The College Opens Its Doors
Hephzibah Modern College of Health Science and Technology is established in Ishasi-Akute, Ogun State, with an inaugural cohort of 47 students across three programmes: General Health Technician, CHEW, and Community Health. The founding motto is set: "Excellence in Healthcare Education."
First Government Accreditation Received
After a rigorous inspection by the Ogun State Ministry of Health, the college receives full state government accreditation — a landmark achievement that validates our curriculum, faculty qualifications, and facility standards. Student enrolment doubles to over 90 students.
Modern Laboratories Commissioned
Investment in world-class laboratory facilities transforms student training. New labs for Science Lab Technology, Pharmacy, and Clinical Skills are equipped with industry-standard instruments, giving students hands-on experience that mirrors real healthcare settings. The Pharmacy Technician programme launches to strong enrolment.
Hospital Partnership Programme Launched
Formal partnerships signed with General Hospital Sagamu, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, and four other regional healthcare facilities. Students now benefit from structured, supervised clinical placements as a mandatory component of all health technician programmes.
First Graduating Class Receives Certificates
In a landmark ceremony, Hephzibah's inaugural graduating class of 89 students receive their professional certificates. Over 85% secure employment within three months of graduation — a statistic that instantly establishes Hephzibah's reputation for producing work-ready healthcare professionals.
Student Hostel Officially Opens
The residential hostel is commissioned, removing a major barrier for students from outside Ogun State and beyond. With safe, comfortable, affordable accommodation on or near campus, students from Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Kwara, and Ekiti states begin enrolling in significant numbers.
Public Health & Paramedic Programmes Added
Responding to industry demand, the college launches Public Health and Paramedic & Emergency Care programmes, becoming one of the first institutions in Ogun State to offer formal paramedic training. Total programmes now number twelve, with over 300 active students enrolled.
Adapting Through a Global Pandemic
When COVID-19 disrupts education globally, Hephzibah responds swiftly — introducing hybrid learning platforms, personal protective equipment training, and infection control modules. Several students and graduates volunteer in frontline healthcare roles. The college demonstrates that resilience and purpose can overcome extraordinary challenges.
Digital Learning Infrastructure Established
Investment in ICT infrastructure brings computer labs, high-speed internet, and a Learning Management System to campus. Health Information Management is added as a programme, recognising the growing importance of digital health records and data in modern healthcare delivery.
Federal Ministry of Health Recognition
After a comprehensive national quality review, Hephzibah receives formal recognition from the Federal Ministry of Health, confirming that our programmes and standards meet or exceed national benchmarks for healthcare training. This recognition enables graduates to practice in any state across Nigeria.
Ten Years of Excellence Celebrated
Hephzibah celebrates a decade of transforming lives. The milestone is marked with a grand convocation ceremony attended by over 1,000 alumni, government officials, and healthcare leaders. By this point, more than 4,200 graduates are working across Nigeria's healthcare sector, with many serving as department heads, senior nurses, and lead pharmacists.
Campus Expansion & New Programmes
Major campus expansion project adds a new lecture block, expanded clinical skills lab, a student common room, and additional hostel capacity. HND and OND Community Health programmes are introduced in partnership with accredited universities. Total enrolment exceeds 500 students per session for the first time.
Leading into the Future with 5,000+ Graduates
